The Spikedrivers

Debut Album from the late-night darlings of Columbus,Ohio

Born in the Rust Belt, after three years of hard work, The Spikedrivers have released their debut, self-titled studio album. The album features the band's most popular down-and-dirty originals, melding an industrial soundscape with old-time country, swingin' blues, and good old rock and roll. It showcases the song writing of Jesse Henry and the instrumental prowess of bassist Steven Fox, fiddler Megan Palmer, guitarists Steve Sweney and Paul Brown, and Nate Anders, jazz vibraphonist turned country drummer. Grammy award winner Jeff Ciampa produced the album.

Steeped in the Americana tradition of storytelling, the album begins with 'The Ballad of John Dillinger.' In 1931, Dillinger robbed a bank in Jesse's hometown of Bluffton, Ohio. The vocally rich and haunted 'Compromised,' is accompanied with lush strings. 'Cuckoo' opens with the lyrics 'Don't call me honey/ I ain't that sweet.' This is a line every lover can relate to, as well as being an apt description of the band itself. 'Like Water' and 'Let's All Go to Church' draw on the gospel and bluegrass tradition as well as Jesse's Mennonite upbringing.

The Spikedrivers are the result of a meeting in late 2003 at a local open mic night in Columbus, Ohio. Jesse and Steven were both recent college graduates of jazz and classical music, who shared a passion for American roots music. After a year of playing out on the Columbus scene, The Spikedrivers expanded the ensemble to include: Megan Palmer, who has worked with Rick Moranis, Luther Wright and the Wrongs, Tim Easton and Sara Harmer, Steve Sweney who is lead guitarist for Ekoostik Hookah, and Guitar Magazines Best Unsigned Guitarist Award recipient for 1990 and 1993, Paul Brown.

In the last two years, The Spikedrivers have gained fame in Ohio. They will be touring, promoting their new album and delivering meaningful music, to those under the spell of their infectious joy.
